As I've mentioned before, we use the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum to help teach handwriting. One component of this program is Mat Man. Mat Man helps us think of the various shapes when drawing a person. We talk about shapes and letters in terms of big line, little line, big curve and little curve. Today, we practiced building Mat Man with our shapes like we've done before and then we went to our tables to practice drawing Mat Man.
At the end of handwriting I challenged the kids to try building mat man at home using things they have at home. We talked about various things that could work. Here is an example of what we used in the classroom today. Have fun giving this a try at home!
