Word Study

In word study at this time of year we learn about a large variety of things. We work on learning letters and their sounds, rhyming, syllables, counting the words in a sentence etc. Today in word study, we focused on letters and their sounds. We worked on hearing letter sounds and writing the letter to match the sound. We did this with finger paint. We wrapped up word study with some letter naming fluency. With letter naming fluency, we are practicing recognizing upper and lower case letters out of order. Our task is to "read" (name) the letters as quickly as we can.

Today we also worked on observational drawings of our pumpkins. We talked more about what the word observation meant and this time practiced it with a drawing of our pumpkin. The kids studied the pumpkins carefully and drew what they saw.

Winter celebration!
