Animal Needs

In science this week we are learning what animals need to survive. Today the kids were challenged to be animal rescue workers and were given an animal to take care of for 5 days. They were challenged to create a "shopping list" and plan out what their animal would need for food. We worked in small groups to complete the task and at the end, we pretended we were at a museum and checked out the work of other groups.

New Book Idea!

We have been reading from the books "What Should Danny Do?" this week. The kids have loved them and they seem to be "new" to everyone. In these books the kids have the "Power to Choose" and help Danny make choices. The books are set up like a choose your own adventure style and they love reading them with me.

I just wanted to pass the titles along in case you are interested. There are 9 stories in the first book and 8 in the School Day version.

Snow Science

Today at recess many students were "snacking" on snow. I explained that even though the snow looked clean, chances are, it isn't....especially at school. Some kids continued snacking so I decided to do a little experiment with them. I asked them to show me where some "clean" snow was so I could scoop some up. We brought it inside and watched it melt all day. Around 2:15, this is what we found...

...many kids responded with "that's disgusting". I wonder how many snow "snackers" we'll have tomorrow at recess!!
