Today we made a chart of all the Superpowers we have for when we are reading books. These Superpowers can help us when we get to a tricky or challenging word. If your child is reading at home with you and they encounter a tricky word, you can encourage them to try one of these strategies to help them figure it out!
Happy Reading!

Gingerbread Memory
Today in math we played memory with gingerbread houses and gingerbread men. The gingerbread houses had a ten-frame. The gingerbread men had a number written on them. The kids had to match the number to the ten frame.
Gingerbread Storyboard
This week we also made the storyboard for the Gingerbread Man. We have been practicing our retelling of this story. On Friday, the storyboards will come home so you'll be able to enjoy the retelling too!
ZAP!
This week we learned a new game in word study...ZAP! The kids are loving this game and it's another way we are practicing our "snap" words.
To play the kids choose a stick out of the cup. Each stick has a "snap" word written on it or the word ZAP! If they can read the word they can keep the stick. If they cannot read the word it goes back into the cup for more practice. If they pull out a stick and it says "ZAP!" all of that players sticks must go back into the cup! They seriously love this game!

Roll, Say, Keep
Today we played Roll, Say, Keep in word study using our High Frequency (snap) words. This week we used the gingerbread version to mix it up and played with all 25 words even though only 11 have been formally introduced. The kids did great reading the words they knew and tried to learn a few new words too.
Here is an updated word wall:
Here we are playing Roll, Say, Keep.

Snowflakes!
On Tuesday we learned how to make snowflakes by folding and cutting paper! The kids were thrilled with this and many have been making them at choice time too.
