Winter Trees

We had a lot of fun creating these winter trees. We first began with dry erase boards and markers to practice what we preferred as an artist. For instance, did we want our snow to be hilly or mostly flat? We practiced large trees and small trees as well as trees that slightly overlap to make it seem like one is in front of the other.

After, we used Sharpies and drew our drawings. From there we watercolored the pictures choosing the shades of blue and green we liked. Last, we added a little snow glitter to the snow and created snowflakes falling from the sky!

We made it!

While our day was jumbled and rushed at times, we made it to "Backstage at the Nutcracker" today! This was a great experience for the kids. A storyteller helped to tell the story and she even explained how the tree grew larger, how the nutcracker turned into a prince and many other parts. The kids really enjoyed it and it was worth the extra effort to get us there. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Caton and Mrs. Galli for all of the extra phone calls, emails and texts it took to make this change happen on such short notice!

Snow what fun...

We go out to recess every day unless it's raining too hard or the temperature is too cold (below 10).  Thank you for helping your children come prepared for recess today. When we are prepared, we can have the most fun outside!

50th Day of Kindergarten!

To celebrate, all of kindergarten met in the gym to dance...50's Sock Hop style!

Today we also played a new game at word study to practice reading our "snap" words. The name of the game is "Roll, Say, Keep".

To play:
*Roll the die
*Pick a card from the pile of the number you rolled
*Read it.
If you know how to read the word, you keep it. If you need help reading the word, you put it back at the bottom of the pile!

Reader Man

Today in reader's workshop something unexpected happened....Super Reader Man sent the class an email! The email was encouraging the kids to continue pointing to each word as they read and Reader Man even left some special pointers for the class to keep in their book boxes. The kids were super excited about this and were off to eagerly read their books.

Pointer Power is our first official reading super power (reading strategy)

After Thanksgiving break, I hope to begin teaching the kids how to shop for and bring home books in their book bags to read to you each night. Each day they bring back their bag with their book in it, they can swap the book and bring a new one home that night.

World Kindness Day

Today was World Kindness Day. To celebrate, we sang some kindness songs, watched a kid president message and read many stories about kindness. We also had many discussions about ways to show kindness and had conversations that kindness does not just mean using kind words but also with the things you choose to do.

Today we read:

Today we listened to:

Kid President Message

The LovingKindness Song
